Circulate Air Between Floors

The level to level ventilator fan shown moves existing cool air from one level from the basement or a mini split system for example to another level of the house through an adjustable sleeve installed through the floor ceiling.

This is by using supplemental mechanical balanced heat recovery ventilation systems. There are 2 hvac systems both sitting in the basement. What surprised me is that this morning the temperatures were the same. In the summer the cool air sinks to the basement and the heat must run to keep it at 69f.

Within a few minutes the temperature should equalize between the floors there s another more advanced and much more expansive way of improving air ventilation and air circulation in homes especially multi story buildings. Keep the forced air system thermostat fan on instead of auto position to help circulate the air during the hottest and coldest periods of time. The smaller 40kbtu system is zoned for a large south west facing 1st floor office with many widows and the basement. An inline booster fan would push or pull air depending on the season.

Very basic plan is to use some rigid ducting to reach from the ceiling of the 1st floor to the ceiling of the 2nd floor in the same room as the stove. First if you also have forced air turn the fan on to help circulate heat. A ventilator fan can blow conditioned air up or down depending on the position of the blower unit. Have a professional contractor install a cold air return gadget in your basement.
