Clean A Stain Out Of A Wool Carpet

Pour club soda or cold water onto the carpet covering an area about one and one half times the size of the stain.

Clean a stain out of a wool carpet.

Sponge with cold water and blot dry. Using a clean white cloth sponge the stain with the mixture applying a little bit at a time and blotting frequently with a dry cloth until the stain disappears. If you re working with a particularly stubborn stain you can treat it with a stain solution first. To clean a fresh stain on a wool carpet start by scooping up any solids and blotting the stain with a dry paper towel.

Then apply plain warm water to the stain and gently rub it into the carpet with a cloth. If you don t want to use chemicals use a combination of water and dish detergent or water and white vinegar. Let the water stand for 30 seconds. Repeat until no more stain is transferred onto the cloth.

Should the stain remain using a clean white cloth or sponge treat with a mixture of 1 teaspoon of approved wool laundry detergent and one teaspoon of white vinegar in 1 litre of warm water. Pour a small amount of cold water onto the wine spot to dilute what remains of the stain. If the stain is from red wine this is how coit cleaning suggests treating the spot which is the same as treating this stain on wool carpet. If the stain is already set try applying white vinegar and water to the stain and lightly rubbing it in.

Rinse with warm water repeating treatment until no stain is evident on cloth or towels. Wool carpet is naturally full of moisture so you don t want to add more.
